Local A Cappella quartet ‘Carousel’ have placed 4th in the UK at the Sweet Adelines Convention held at Warwick University on Friday 13th May 2022.
Based in Plymouth (and part of the Mayflower A Cappella Chorus). Carousel last competed in this competition back in 2019 when they placed 8th. The competition then did not run again due to the pandemic.
But three years later they were back doing what they love, singing together and this time coming back home to Plymouth with a 4th place medal.
Carousel is formed of 4 equally talented ladies Elaine (Tenor), Susie (Baritone), Sarah (Bass) and Elaine (Lead). Sarah is also the Musical Director for the award winning Mayflower A Cappella Chorus who rehearse every Monday at Hele’s School, Plympton.
Throughout the pandemic, the quartet and the chorus had to become adaptable, flexible and pretty determined to continue singing. There were outdoor rehearsals, zoom rehearsals, masked rehearsals and then finally, they were allowed to go back to rehearsing in person.
“we are so happy and proud of this achievement after the hours of online rehearsals. Good though technology is, it cannot replicate the real harmonics of the human voice so we are incredibly grateful to be able to sing together again”.
